The Legion of Marx – Nietzsche’s Ghost in the Strike Action of PT AFI’s Union

Recently, cyberspace was tinged with boisterous chatter from netizen commenting on the steps of the PT AFI Union in carrying out its illegal strike, which was followed by a statement of PT AFI which said that the worker had been absent from work for more than 7 days in a row.

Since 21 February 2020, 454 PT AFI Unions have carried out their strike action, which resulted in the company step to qualify their actions as an act of resignation.

Of course, the company has a strong legal basis for taking a stand, referring to Law No. 13/2003 concerning Manpower, particularly Articles 137 to 145, and Minister of Manpower and Transmigration Decree No. 232/2003 concerning the Legal Effects of Illegal Work Strike.

Based on those package of regulations, a strike considers legal if only the result of a failed negotiation (deadlock) stated in the minutes of the meeting, both by the company and the union.

In addition to carrying out the strike, unscrupulous PT AFI Unions also attempted to damage the brand, by spreading hoax news, ranging from the issue of high rates of miscarriage women, unfavorable work environment conditions, to false news about the contamination of PT AFI products with harmful microbes.

This conflict reminds us of the dialectical model of materialism from Karl Heinreich Marx (1818-1882) in Das Capital. Mark stated that reconciliation or new synthesis must be realized by destroying the institutions of capital owners. Only in this way can society become classless and prosperous. So resistance, strikes, and even revolution are the most effective ways to destroy the owner of capital. Of course, what Mark meant was criticism of unfair treatment in capitalist economic practices.

The Ghost of Das Capital and Zarathustra

It seems that PT AFI’s Union has been possessed by Das Capital Marx’s ghost. The union has taken a banal decision by conducting an illegal strike. Furthermore, because of their inability to follow the rhythm of the Post Truth game, they are deceived by an interest group that has a tendency to fulfill the appetite for power by manipulating the truth.

As a result, each individual in the union is hypnotized by the mentality of the crowd and the collective narrative about the will power, so that they tend to lose subjective awareness to distance themselves from the reality around them. This chaos occurred, not only between PT AFI and its Union but also chaos between the members of the Union, even with himself.

As said by Nietzsche (1844-1900) in Thus Spoke Zarathustra, that humans are nothing more than natural instincts that are similar to animals, and the will to power is the deepest and highest instinct of reality over itself (reality as such). In other words, subjectivity and the inability to interpret the reality is influenced by the instincts of ruling over PT AFI.

So it is clear that the actual actor of the conflict is the Legion of Das Capital and Zarathustra ghosts.
